NICE published a new quality standard in January 2020, ‘QS190 Flu vaccination: increasing uptake’, which covers increasing the uptake of flu vaccination among people who are eligible (not including those aged 65 and over). One of the quality statements made is that health and social care staff who have direct contact with people using services should receive the flu vaccine, and that it is the responsibility of their employer to do so. This includes making vaccination accessible to shift workers and people who work remotely.

It also advises that providers use different methods to invite eligible groups for vaccination, that the invitations for vaccination for these groups include information about their clinical risk, and that non-general practice providers notify the relevant GP practice when they vaccinate their eligible patients.
