MHRA: Preventing harm caused by food allergens in hospitals

1 September, 2020

The MHRA has provided guidance on managing the risk of harm to patients with food allergies while staying in hospitals or care facilities. Information should be provided to patients, staff and visitors about the presence of specified allergens in food, such as nuts or gluten, but safeguards do not always prevent people from being harmed. Although most incidents do not result in serious harm, on rare occasions anaphylactic reactions can occur, which may be fatal.
